Transition
FRIDAY
2 MAY 2025—
What we know of transitions — a shift, a change in our perspective or state of being — is that we are in the ever-present state of them.
Oh, if we could just let ourselves float. Lately, I’ve been floating a little — and also tussling with myself. Luckily, I am not floundering as much as I was just a few weeks ago. My days are evening out and flowing much easier now, which brings me to a place of gratitude and more profound peace. What a relief.
Frozen February made way for a welcome spring thaw. The soil masks undercurrents of movement and growth. Behind our eyes and resting flesh, electric synapses are firing, impatiently waiting for our first move.
It reminds me of the David Whyte poem, “Start Close In.” He recently had a Three Sundays series that centered on that idea. I love these lectures so much.
It’s important we clear space emotionally and physically. What do I need to clear out? PLENTY. I made a “top 5” priority list for myself out of a laundry list of voices calling.
What’s my first step? Edit one poem.
Next step? Hold my beer …
“On any given day,
seismic shifts can rattle our skulls,
tectonic plates crack open
earthen mounds of understanding
making wide a new way forward. ”
